She was watering plants and organizing seed packages but her mind was not there, instead it was about two thousand miles away in Maine. She was wondering what Grace and Walter were doing today at ‘Mainely Chocolate’. The week that she and Frank had spent with them had turned their lives around about 180 degrees, give or take a few degrees. Marla was still dreaming about her chocolate shoppe and now she had total support from Frank, the accountant, numbers man, her adoring husband.

She was delighted that her feelings had blossomed into a deeper love for him and by his words and actions Frank had matched her step by step. Ben had told her that she was ready to go down a new path and find her life purpose, but she was so new at having a guardian angel speak with her, that she didn’t feel confident enough to trust him totally. That was probably her next step, learning to trust.

That felt like a momentous task.Today it was especially difficult for Marla to focus because tonight she was having her friends and neighbors over for a chocolate tasting party. She liked to refer to them as The Ladies on Honeysuckle Road. They had been neighbors for many years, except for the newest ladies, Georgia and Margaret. She was so grateful that Georgia was now living down the street. Fate must have stepped in because she was Grace’s friend and Georgia had arranged for her and Frank to visit Grace and Walter’s chocolate store in Maine.

That trip had been the pivotal point for her and Frank’s relationship and the key to unlock the door for Marla’s chocolate shoppe. They had discovered enough information, wisdom and chocolate secrets to get them headed in the right direction. Marla was ready for everything to start falling into place. She and Frank spent hours every evening after supper going over their business plan and the details for the shoppe. The best ingredient for their chocolate shoppe was the fine quality relationship that they had developed walking on the beach hand in hand listening to the ocean and the gulls.

From this point on they were a team, and unlike all the sports teams that Frank liked to follow, their team only had two members, and both of them were the captain of the team.Marla had a great idea for her evening chocolate party. She had purchased chocolate from the local health food store, name brand chocolate, dark cacao, the darker the better. This chocolate had been her comfort food, the ‘friend’ she had turned to each evening during her ‘pre-chocolate’ awakening.

Ben, her guardian angel, had told her in no uncertain terms to ‘Step Away from the Chocolate’. From this point her life had shifted into what Marla called ‘high gear’. She was moving at lightning speed towards her own successful business, something that she’d never dreamed would come true.

Sure she’d always thought about running her own business, being her own boss and being successful. But her self-confidence had never been high enough on the scale to make it happen. The only scale that she’d been increasing the numbers on was her bath room scale. During her chocolate binging days, the number of her weight had just kept going and going, like the energizer bunny, only in the wrong direction, up instead of down. Marla smiled because since their trip to Maine, she was watching the scale move down and she was still eating chocolate, but not in the quantities she was before.

Funny how life can take such a sudden shift, chocolate is still my friend but in a totally different way.Marla placed the store bought chocolate on a beautiful silver tray that she and Frank had gotten as a wedding gift, one of those gifts that everyone receives but no one uses.
